Work has begun!
On 7th June our main building contractor, Buxton, took over responsibility for the All Saints church site and from now until the planned completion of Phase 1 of the project – in July 2022 – the site will remain under their management. They have strict security and safety rules in place so no-one will be allowed into the site without their permission, and then only for essential project-related work.
One month into the project and much has already been achieved. A number of trees have been removed and temporary facilities erected to support the contractor team. Inside the church asbestos removal has been taking place and conservators have been hard at work lifting and storing all the floor tiles, ready for reinstallation when groundworks (including the installation of underfloor heating) are completed. Necessary modifications to the scaffolding and removal of the old heating system are also in progress.
Works will soon begin to remove the old lady chapel extension and start on the high level repairs to brickwork, bells, and crowning crosses with people working high up on the scaffold roof.
Further updates will be provided at monthly intervals throughout the rest of the project.
