Godly Play
Godly Play helps children to know God, not just know about God.
Godly Play is a very special way of sharing the Bible stories and teachings of the church. We sit together on the floor in a circle and our Godly Play “Storyteller” shows & tells the children the story of the day in a visual and tactile way, encouraging them to enter into the story for themselves. Once the story is told, the children are prompted with some questions to guide the “wondering” such as “I wonder what part of the story is the most important?” or “I wonder where you might be in this story?” The questions are not to test that they were listening but to help them think about the story for themselves at think about what it might mean to or for them. The comments that are made by the children are often remarkably insightful, even by the younger children, and the beauty of these stories is that they are suitable for all ages – even adults.
Our room is setup with all the Godly Play materials surrounding the children in an organised way so that they can find any of the story materials to revisit a story at any time (image shown is the ‘sacred stories shelf’). We always have a wide variety of art and craft materials available to the children to choose what they would like to do in response to the story.
If you have any questions or comments we’d love to hear from you – please contact our team via the Parish Office.
