Baptism

We normally have baptisms services at 12 noon on the 2nd and the 4th Sunday sof the month in Ss Philip & James Church.  We usually have two families at each baptism service and recommend that you contact us for dates as we can be booked up well in advance.

To have your child/children baptised in one of our churches we would expect you to live in the parish, have been married in or attend one of our churches.

We hold baptism preparation meetings on the first Saturday of the month and ask you to attend just one – we will invite you to a specific one when you contact the Parish Office to arrange a baptism date.  These meetings are held in a very relaxed atmosphere and you are welcome to bring your children, more information will be provided in our booking confirmation letter.

You will need to choose up to a maximum of 4 Godparents. We need to emphasise that Godparents, in accordance with Church Law, must be supportive of the Christian faith and be baptised members of the Christian Church – Church of England, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, United Reformed Church, and the like.  Adults who you would wish to be Godparents but are themselves not baptised will be welcome to become supporting friends, but are, unfortunately not able to become formal Godparents. There is no maximum number of supporting friends but there must be a minimum of 2 Godparents per child (ideally with a gender balance).

We do not charge for baptisms but we do charge for the Baptism Certificate, which is £13 per child.

For booking baptisms please contact the Parish office.

There is also a tea party in the summer for families to meet (watch the Parish Diary page for the date of this).

The Baptism Team decorated the font at All Saints for a flower festival. Don’t worry – the flowers are removed before a baptism!

If you are an adult wanting to be baptised please contact the Parish office or Vicar to enquire about our next Baptism & Confirmation Preparation Course.
